2017 is the year of new women's footy teams in the upper midwest. On May 20, North Star Blue Ox combined with fellow debutantes Des Moines and Wisconsin Wombats at the 2017 80/35 tournment in Des Moines, IA.
The combo team knew they add a tough opponent but were undaunted by the challenge ahead. The first half saw them fighting ferociously to gain possession of the ball. They refused to be let down by the half time score and came out determined to improve in the 2nd half.
Head coach Bri Theisen rallied her troops and made critical adjustments to the lineup. The acumen of the rookie head coach and determination of the players lead to the Roosters/Blue Ox/Wombats getting much more of the ball and more scoring opportunities.
When the final horn sounded, the upstarts had scored 5.4.34 to their opponents 11.8.74. While the half time lead was insurmountable, the new clubs held their head high with the effort they put forth.
